21 suspects arrested on terrorism charges in Sulaymaniyah raid

SULAYMANIYAH – The Iraqi security forces announced the arrest of 21 individuals wanted on terrorism charges, including key leaders, following a raid conducted in collaboration with the Kurdistan Region’s Asayish security forces in Sulaymaniyah on Monday.

In a statement provided to 964media, the agency detailed: “Following months of intelligence efforts and field surveillance, and after obtaining judicial approvals, our counter-terrorism cell, in cooperation with the General Directorate for Operations of the Asayish Agency of the Kurdistan Region, conducted a special operation raiding hideouts of ISIS terrorist group members.”

The 21 individuals were wanted for terrorism in the governorate of Sulaymaniyah, with arrest warrants issued under Article Four of the Terrorism Law.

Among those arrested were suspected leaders in ISIS, one of whom allegedly served as the security official for what was known as the Wilayat Al-Fallujah,  “and the other acted as the administrative assistant for what is called Wilayat Dijlah.”

The statement alleges that, “Upon interrogation, they openly confessed to their affiliation with ISIS gangs and their involvement in executing several terrorist operations against security forces.”

Yesterday, the Iraqi National Security Service captured an ISIS leader, known as Abu Hiba, in Anbar. Abu Hiba, who held the position of security official for the district of Fallujah when under ISIS control, revealed the location of a mass grave in the Al-Musalaha cemetery in Fallujah during his interrogation.
