UAE-based Masdar contracted

Anbar commissions third solar power plant

ANBAR — The Governorate of Anbar has awarded the contract for its third solar power plant to the UAE-based company Masdar, following the earlier launches of Ramadi 1 and 2 projects. The region is now eyeing a fourth site in Hit to achieve its 750-megawatt electricity production target.

Muhanad Nissan, head of energy projects in Anbar, expressed to the official newspaper that the governorate is continually dedicating substantial land for solar energy initiatives. “The governorate had previously entrusted Masdar with two sites, Ramadi 1 and 2, which together generate 350 megawatts,” he remarked.

Nissan highlighted that construction is actively proceeding to integrate the Amiriyat Al-Fallujah site, promising an additional 300 megawatts under Masdar’s management. He voiced optimism that these ventures would soon reach completion, particularly with the UAE company meeting all prerequisites.

Moreover, Nissan disclosed ongoing endeavors to launch the Hit site, designed to contribute 100 megawatts toward fulfilling the governorate’s quota. He mentioned that Anbar is also examining the feasibility of generating electricity through waste utilization and considering wind energy after identifying areas with potential.

Elsewhere in Iraq, Masdar is advancing additional solar projects, including a 450-megawatt facility in Dhi Qar, alongside 100-megawatt installations in both Mosul and Amarah. Dhi Qar has seen protests today calling for improved electricity provision.
