Weather report

Temperatures fall as rain reaches northern Iraq

BAGHDAD — Temperatures are dropping across much of Iraq on Sunday, with light showers possible in scattered parts of the north, though Basra and Maysan stay at 50°C.

Baghdad is forecast at 42°C, Wasit 47°C and Dhi Qar 49°C, while Erbil is expected at 40°C, Sulaymaniyah 39°C and Duhok 38°C. Falls of several degrees are expected in central Iraq and a few degrees in the north, with the south largely unchanged.

Skies will be partly cloudy before clearing, with a chance of showers turning thundery in scattered northern areas, particularly in the east. Winds will be light to moderate and variable at 10 to 20 km/h, occasionally southwesterly at 20 to 30 km/h in the centre and north, with gusts raising light dust in desert areas and cutting morning visibility to 5 to 7 km in places.

Monday brings a further drop, with Baghdad at 39°C, Erbil and Nineveh at 36°C and Basra at 46°C.
