Missing for 3 days

Body of 73-Year-old man recovered from Khabur River

ZAKHO – A 73-year-old man who had been missing for three days was found deceased in the Khabur River near the village of Durnakh on Sunday evening, authorities said.

The man, identified as Hamid Mohammed, was discovered at approximately 6 p.m. His body has since been transferred for forensic analysis, according to Ahmed Ramazan, a spokesperson for Zakho Police.

Mohammed had been unaccounted for since Thursday evening. Surveillance footage last captured him near the river, prompting civil defense teams to search the area under the presumption he might have drowned, a relative reported.

“Our teams are searching the area where he was last seen on the surveillance camera,” Jamal Hasan, head of Zakho Civil Defense, previously stated to 964media. Eyad Tariq, head of the Zakho Crime Prevention Office, also mentioned, “While we do not have complete certainty about what happened, we are actively searching and expect to find information within 24 hours.”

This incident marks the fourth drowning in the Khabur River this year.
