Unidentified gunmen attack police patrol in Kirkuk

KIRKUK— Unidentified gunmen attacked a police patrol in central Kirkuk on Friday morning, resulting in fatalities and injuries on both sides.

The incident occurred near the old Mazadkhana market when two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on a police patrol.

According to a police source who spoke to 964media, the attack is being treated as a terrorist act.

The source stated, “Two unidentified gunmen attacked a police patrol, resulting in the death of one officer and the injury of another.”

The attackers fled the scene, but due to the market being deserted, security camera footage from nearby areas was used to track them to the vicinity of the Kirkuk public hospital.

Security forces pursued the attackers, leading to the death of one gunman and the capture of the other, who was wounded.

The motives behind the attack have yet to be officially determined.
