Water supply in Tuz Khurmatu undergoing maintenance, cleaning
TUZ KHURMATU — The water supply for household use in Tuz Khurmatu is undergoing a comprehensive cleaning process, the district’s water director announced, noting that the source had not been cleaned for a long time.
The cleaning, expected to take 10 days, has prompted officials to advise residents to boil their water before use.
Ismail Mustafa, Director of Water and Sewage in Tuz Khurmatu, told 964media that his team has started cleaning the district’s drinking water source.
“The source was contaminated with animal carcasses, debris, and sludge. The cleaning must continue until we can assure residents that the water is safe for consumption and poses no health risks,” Mustafa said.
Residents are urging a speedy cleaning of their water supply, citing years of kidney diseases and other illnesses due to the contaminated water.
The drinking water for Tuz Khurmatu is sourced from Dukan Lake. It flows through Kirkuk city, then through the districts of Dubz and Daquq, reaching surrounding areas before arriving in Tuz Khurmatu in southern Kirkuk province.
