Sulaymaniyah charity provides holiday education for orphaned children

SULAYMANIYAH — The Team Institute, a charitable organization focused on enhancing educational outcomes for orphaned children, is making a significant impact in Sulaymaniyah by providing supplementary education during holiday periods to 250 fatherless children, many of whom also lack maternal care.

Isra Ahmad, the director of the Team Institute, explained that this initiative complements the children’s regular school education, aiming to bridge educational gaps and offer additional support in subjects such as languages, computer science, and music.

Funded through philanthropic contributions, the program serves students from first to twelfth grade, offering not only academic instruction but also transportation and meals to ensure comprehensive support beyond the traditional school year. Ahmad stressed the program’s inclusivity, noting that it welcomes children who have lost their fathers and extends its services to those in urgent need of educational enrichment during their break from public schools.

Funding for these essential services comes from individual donations, with a suggested contribution of 50,000 Iraqi dinars per child per month. Ahmad emphasized the program’s flexibility regarding donation amounts, recognizing the varying financial capacities of donors. This initiative reflects the community’s dedication to fostering the potential of every child, irrespective of their family situation, by providing quality education and care when schools are usually closed.

Ahmad mentioned, “We set this amount to encourage wider participation. Once people learn about the project and see its genuine impact on the children’s lives and the quality of education they receive, they are motivated to contribute.” Despite some donors expressing regret over their inability to make ongoing contributions due to financial limits, even small donations, such as five or ten thousand dinars, have been welcomed.

Ahmad highlighted the collective effort in supporting one, two, three, five, or more children, with the institute using these contributions for food, transportation, teacher salaries, and other expenses. “During holidays, the children are brought to the institute in special buses and receive instruction in languages, computer science, and music,” she added.
