800 desks fixed
Suq Al-Shuyukh blacksmith repairs school desks for free
DHI QAR — Haider Abd Al-Sahib, a blacksmith from Nasiriyah, has made a remarkable commitment to his community by dedicating two days each week to voluntarily repair school desks in government schools within the Suq Al-Shuyukh area of Dhi Qar governorate, filling in to fill. the gap left by the local and federal education authorities.
In an impressive display of generosity and community service, al-Sahib has repaired more than 800 desks across nine schools over the past two years, all without accepting any form of donation for his services. His dedication to helping the local schools is a solo effort, born out of a desire to contribute positively to his community.
The initiative began two years ago, inspired by the encouragement of friends and the local education director, who recognized Al-Sahib’s skills as a valuable asset to the schools. Despite initially having assistance, the demands of others’ commitments have led him to continue his work alone.
Describing his daily routine, al-Sahib shared, “I cycle to the workshop in the morning, return home for lunch, and then carry on with the repair work in the afternoon.” This disciplined approach has allowed him to make a significant impact on the quality of education by ensuring students have functional desks to use.
Mohammed Mohsen, the principal of Al-Balagha School, is just one of many in the educational community who have expressed deep gratitude towards al-Sahib. He highlighted that despite al-Sahib’s limited income, the blacksmith has rehabilitated approximately 70 desks for their school alone, steadfastly refusing any financial compensation from the school or its teachers.
