Groups call for decision's reversal

Erbil Christians, Turkmen protest court ruling on regional parliamentary seats

ERBIL — Dozens from Christian and Turkmen communities in Erbil staged a protest Monday against the Iraqi federal court’s decision to annul quota seats in the Kurdistan Regional Parliament.

Residents of Erbil’s predominantly-Christian Ainkawa district, alongside representatives of Chaldean, Syriac, Assyrian, and Armenian communities, joined the Turkmen demonstrators.

The roughly hour-long protest saw participants carrying banners condemning the court’s ruling and demanding its reversal. They emphasized the importance of preserving their communities’ representation within the regional parliament.
