Iraqi president Abdul Latif Rashid visits Algeria for GECF summit
BAGHDAD — President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid of Iraq arrived in Algeria on Friday, March 1, 2024, responding to an official invitation from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to participate in the seventh summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
A statement from the Iraqi presidency’s media office detailed the president’s arrival: “His Excellency the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, arrived in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria today, Friday. His Excellency was received at Houari Boumediene Airport by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. An official reception ceremony, complete with the playing of the Iraqi and Algerian national anthems, marked the occasion, followed by a review of the guard of honor by the two leaders.”
The visit comes following an official invitation extended by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Accompanying President Rashid is a government delegation including Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul Ghani, and a member of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, Adnan Ashour Adnan.
The delegation also includes Ali Al-Shukri, head of the Board of Advisors and Experts at the Presidency of the Republic, Muhammad Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, the deputy foreign minister, and Fares Issa, head of the Kurdistan Region Representative Office, along with a contingent of officials and advisors.
