Bridge to ease traffic going south

New Al-Rustamiyah bridge opens, linking Baghdad to southern governorates

BAGHDAD — The second Al-Rustamiyah concrete bridge over the Diyala River was officially opened on Wednesday by Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities Minister Bankin Rikani.

A statement from the ministry called the bridge’s completion a key milestone in the Baghdad – Bismayah entrance road rehabilitation and maintenance project.

It further described the bridge’s strategic importance for connecting Baghdad with southern governorates and alleviating traffic congestion on the old bridge, which will soon undergo rehabilitation as well.

The Roads and Bridges Department oversaw the bridge’s construction, culminating in a structure 334 meters long and 18 meters wide.
