Badr's Hadi al-Amiri nominee

Compromise candidate for Diyala governorship

BAGHDAD — Hadi al-Amiri, the Secretary-General of the Badr Organization, sent a handwritten letter to members of Diyala Provincial Council on Friday, announcing the nomination of “Mohammed Jasim al-Amiri,” son of the Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court, for the position of governor as a compromise candidate, citing the need to end political deadlock following the council’s split into two factions.

Hadi al-Amiri addressed the members of the Diyala Provincial Council in the following statement:

To my sons and daughters, the esteemed members of the Diyala council

Peace be upon you,

After praying for your success and dedication to serving your beloved province, Diyala, which has suffered various forms of blind terrorism since 2003 until today, and has offered the best of its sons as martyrs on the path of freedom and dignity.

Special thanks and appreciation to the honorable Governor of Diyala, Mr. Muthanna al-Tamimi, for his great and continuous efforts in serving the people of Diyala.

Due to the political deadlock and the division of Diyala Provincial Council members into two factions, and in our keenness for the stability and security of Diyala and to avoid returning to square one, we have decided to nominate a compromise candidate, the competent young man “Mohammed Jasim al-Amiri,” from the respected and prestigious families of Diyala province.

We hope for support, endorsement, and backing from all parties and political blocs in this challenging task.

We hope that our son Mohammed al-Amiri will maintain equal distance from all political forces. What matters to us is the stability of Diyala and serving its people.

Peace be upon you, and may the mercy and blessings of God be upon you.
