Warnings of potential flash floods

Kurdistan Region braces for heavy rainfall, civil defense teams on high alert

ERBIL — The Kurdistan Weather Authority issued a warning on Wednesday, forecasting heavy rainfall across most of the region at night and prompting civil defense teams in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah to prepare for potential floods.

Meteorologists within the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Transportation announced that heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas, is expected to start in Duhok before spreading eastward across the entire region.

In response, municipalities in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah have mobilized civil defense teams who are on high alert. The Sulaymaniyah municipality has urged residents to contact emergency services by dialing 100 in case of flooding.

Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw confirmed late Tuesday that all emergency services and relevant entities are on high alert and prepared to respond to any flooding events.
