Kurdistan Region, Saudi Arabia to open direct air route

ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Board of Investment is gearing up to launch direct flights between the Kurdistan Region and Saudi Arabia, with the goal of boosting investment opportunities.

A delegation from the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, led by the chief of the country’s investment fund, is set to visit Erbil soon. A primary agenda item will be the launch of this flight service.

Bergesh Akreyi, the spokesperson for the investment board, told 964media that the Kurdistan government is planning to set up a center to market local products. A high-level delegation from Saudi Arabia is expected in Erbil, showing interest in importing products from the Kurdistan Region to Saudi Arabia.

“The transportation of these products will be facilitated by the air route, thus, discussions with the Saudi delegation will include finalizing and readying for the start of this service,” Akreyi explained.

“The establishment of this air link with Saudi Arabia will open up investment opportunities in various sectors as well, strengthening economic cooperation between the two regions,” the board spokesperson added.
