Baghdad to summon U.S. chargé d’affaires over American strikes

In response to the U.S. airstrikes against the Popular Mobilization Forces on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Saturday it will summon the acting U.S. chargé d’affaires in Baghdad, David Baker. The protest note will be delivered in the absence of the ambassador to express the Iraqi government’s objection to the military actions.

Statement from the ministry:

In protest of the American aggression targeting military and civilian sites in Iraq, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will summon the acting U.S. Embassy chargé d’affaires in Baghdad, David Baker, due to the absence of the U.S. ambassador. He will be presented with an official protest note regarding the U.S. attack that struck military and civilian locations in the Akashat and Al-Qa’im areas the previous evening, Friday, Feb. 2, 2024.
