Asaad Al-Eidani gets second term as Basra’s governor

BASRA, January 30 – Asaad Al-Eidani will serve a second term as governor of Basra, according to Amer Al-Fayez, head of the Al-Tasmim Alliance.

Speaking to 964media on Tuesday, Al-Fayez said a scheduled provincial council meeting would be postponed to Saturday due to an ongoing dispute among council members over the position of the council’s chair.

“We are waiting for consensus among Coordination Framework parties concerning the appointment of the council’s chair, along with other positions,” Al-Fayez said.

He added there was no dispute over appointing Al-Eidani to the governorship, with full consensus among alliance members.
