Seminar on beekeeping in Ranya aims to address industry challenges
RANYA, January 29 — Beekeepers in Raparin are buzzing with concern as honey production dwindles due to cooler weather patterns and a delayed warm season last year. To address these challenges and others, the Directorate of Agriculture will hold a seminar on Wednesday in Chwarqurna.
The seminar, in collaboration with the Kurdistan Beekeepers Association, aims to educate participants on maintaining healthy and safe hives despite the production decline. Beekeepers will learn about diseases affecting apiaries and receive guidance on best practices for optimal honey yield.
Khalid Hassan, the head of agriculture in Raparin, informed 964media that officials notified beekeepers in the area about registration and data collection for the seminar.
Compared to previous years, 2023 saw a significant drop in honey production across Sulaymaniyah governorate. The region, known for its high-quality honey, produced around 600 tons, with 200 tons coming from the Sharbazher area alone.
This seminar represents a crucial step towards supporting the region’s beekeeping industry. By providing beekeepers with the knowledge and resources they need, the Directorate of Agriculture hopes to reverse the decline in honey production and ensure the continued success of this vital sector.
