Sound bomb thrown at Basra power company chief’s car outside his home

BASRA — Two people on a motorcycle threw a sound bomb at the car of the director general of the state-owned Southern Electricity Production Company early Friday as it was parked outside his home in the Mutaiha area of central Basra, a security source told 964media.

The attack happened at about 1:40 a.m., the source said, without mentioning injuries or damage. The motive is unknown and no one has been identified.

The company condemned the attack, urged security authorities to find and arrest those responsible, and said it would not stop its management from pressing ahead with development, maintenance and rehabilitation projects to improve the power system. It rejected violence and intimidation against citizens, officials and state institutions.
