Unusual wheat blossom emerges in Sulaymaniyah’s Sangaw plains
SULAYMANIYAH, January 23 – A local farmer in Sulaymaniyah noticed his imported wheat crops began sprouting unexpectedly, prompting him to ask agricultural experts in the area to explain the phenomenon.
Farmers traditionally plant wheat in the Kurdistan Region at the onset of the rainy season in November. The plants reach maturity between February and March, and the harvest commences in mid-May.
Contrary to the norm, the farmer in Sangaw noted early blossoms on a distinct wheat variety in the region’s plains. With two months remaining in the winter season, the farmer said he was concerned that a potential cold snap could jeopardize the wheat crop.
He urged fellow growers to take precautionary measures to prevent losses, emphasizing the importance of bolstering local seed production to mitigate risks for farmers.
