Balad Billiards Championship gets underway

BALAD, SALAH AL-DIN, January 21 – The Salah al-Din Clubs Billiards Championship began in Balad on Saturday. Organized by the local Billiards and Snooker Federation, the one-day event featured a double elimination format with 10 teams participating. The championship’s main aim is to select three teams to represent Salah al-Din at the Iraq Championship in mid-February.

Teams from Balad, Al-Dujail, Al-Duluiya, Al-Ishaqi, Al-Alam, Baiji, Saad, Shabab Al-Dour, Tikrit, and Al-Shirqat competed.

Majid Faleeh of the Central Iraqi Billiards Union told 964media, “This championship’s goal is to pick three clubs for the governorate and to encourage young talent in billiards.”

Zuhair Yassin of the Salahuddin Billiards Union noted the championship’s importance, saying, “National team players competed here, offering provincial players a chance to learn from seasoned athletes.”

Amir Ali, a player from the Tikrit team, said, “We are in the third round and aim for first place.” Ali, who has won 11 Arab gold medals, the Arab Cup, and three West Asian Championship gold medals from 2015 to 2023, represented Tikrit in the championship.

Hussein Al-Hindi, coach of the Balad team, commented, “Balad, Al-Duluiya, and Tikrit are the top teams. As hosts, we ensured the event’s success. The atmosphere was very supportive, and we’re preparing for the central Iraq Championship.”
