Iraqi Prime Minister Calls Iranian Strike in Erbil a ‘Clear Act of Aggression’

NEWSROOM, January 16, 2024 – In an interview with Bloomberg in Davos, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Al Sudani characterized the recent Iranian missile strike in Erbil as “a clear act of aggression against Iraq.” Prime Minister Al Sudani highlighted the severity of the incident, noting that the strike tragically impacted a residential area, resulting in casualties within an Iraqi-Kurdish family, including children.

The Prime Minister expressed concern over the implications of such actions on the relationship between Iraq and Iran, stating, “This is for sure a dangerous development that undermines the strong relationship between Iraq and Iran.”

Reaffirming Iraq’s stance on its sovereignty, Al Sudani emphasized that “the Iraqi government maintains its right to all diplomatic and legal procedures granted to it by its sovereignty.”
