Karbala criminal court sentences individual to 15 years for promoting ISIS activities on social media

KARBALA, January 15 — The Karbala Criminal Court issued a verdict on Sunday, sentencing an individual to 15 years in prison for promoting ISIS ideologies and activities on social media.

A statement from the court read:

The Criminal Court of Karbala has issued a 15-year prison sentence to an offender who disseminated operations carried out by terrorist ISIS gangs and adopted their ideologies.

The offender utilized social media platforms to propagate operations targeting security forces, in addition to communicating with individuals affiliated with terrorist ISIS gangs to promote his ideologies and encourage others to support them.’

The verdict was issued based on the provisions of Article 4/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005, in conjunction with the stipulations of Articles 2/1 and 3, and guided by Article 132 of the Penal Code.
