Roadwork completed on pilgrimage route linking Iraq and Saudi Arabia

KARBALA, January 11 – The pilgrimage route connecting Iraq to Saudi Arabia has been successfully renovated according to an announcement by the Iraqi Ministry of Construction and Housing.

The renovation was completed by the Ashur Public Company, an entity affiliated with the Ministry.

Roadwork on the route involved applying a final polymeric surface layer with thermoplastic dyes, with directional indicators, warning traffic signs, and protective fences installed to enhance functionality and safety features.

This pilgrimage route serves as the primary overland transport conduit for pilgrims heading to Mecca, Islam’s holiest city, and also facilitates trade between Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The route also links Karbala and Anbar governorates.
