Officials enforce penalties for wasting water in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH, January 9 — Homes in the Sulaymaniyah’s Aqari neighborhood are facing scrutiny as runoff from rooftop water tanks pours onto the streets below.

Bakhtiar Tahir, Director of the Sulaymaniyah Water Department, asserts that violators will face punitive measures. Speaking to 964, he outlined that households with malfunctioning tanks that result in runoff will face fines of 50,000 dinars for wasting water.

Inspectors are monitoring areas exhibiting water wastage and issuing warnings if residences are unoccupied.

Tahir emphasized enforcement of penalties, regardless of the location, stressing the need for functional water systems to prevent further wastage.
