"A brazen violation of sovereignty"
Military spokesperson denounces drone strike on PMF
BAGHDAD, Iraq – January 4, 2024: In a statement issued today, Major General Yahya Rasool Abdullah, the spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, has condemned a drone attack on a security headquarters in Baghdad. Describing the incident as an act indistinguishable from terrorism, Rasool articulated the Iraqi Armed Forces’ staunch stance against this breach of their national sovereignty and security.
Statement
In a blatant attack and a flagrant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and security, a drone carried out an act no different from terrorist activities, targeting one of the security headquarters in the capital Baghdad, today, Thursday, which led to casualties in this incident that is wholly and utterly rejected.
The Iraqi Armed Forces hold the international coalition forces responsible for this unjustified attack on an Iraqi security entity that operates under the authority granted to it by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, which undermines all understandings between the Iraqi Armed Forces and the international coalition forces.
We consider this targeting a serious escalation and an assault on Iraq, far removed from the spirit and text of the mandate and the purpose for which the international coalition is present in Iraq…
Mercy and forgiveness for the martyrs of Iraq and a speedy recovery for the wounded…
