Health ministry announces destruction of 1 million Artane tablets and over 17 tons of drugs

BAGHDAD, December 28 — On Thursday, the Ministry of Health declared the destruction of one million narcotic Artane tablets at the Baghdad Forensic Medicine Department. The operation was supervised by representatives from the health and interior ministries and also the judiciary. Judge Suhaib Dahham announced that more than 17 tons of drugs, over 10 million tablets, and 4,119 Tramadol ampoules were incinerated.

Under the supervision and follow-up of Health Minister Dr. Saleh Mehdi Al-Hasnawi, who is also the head of the National Anti-Drug Authority, the destruction committee included Judge Suhaib Dahham Al-Muadiedy, Deputy Chief Justice of the Federal Appeals Court in Baghdad Al-Rusafa, and Chairman of the Drug Material Destruction Committee. Dr. Iyad Hassan Al-Tamimi, Director of the Monitoring Department of the National High Commission for Drug Affairs at the Ministry of Health, along with all committee members.

The Drug Material Destruction Committee continued its periodic work by destroying new quantities of confiscated drugs. This action is in accordance with Article 42 of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017. The destruction took place at the Forensic Medicine Department in Baghdad on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

Judge Suhaib Dahham Al-Muadiedy, the chairman of the Drug Material Destruction Committee, stated that one million Artane tablets were destroyed, bringing the total quantity disposed of during this year to more than 17 tons, over 10 million tablets, and 4,119 Tramadol ampoules. These materials were stored in a secure room at the Baghdad Forensic Medicine Department and were seized according to legal records.

Judge Suhaib Dahham Al-Muadiedy emphasized that the work is ongoing and periodic for the destruction of all confiscated drugs at the Forensic Medicine Department in Baghdad and other provinces.
