KRG says budget transfer from Baghdad won’t cover salaries

ERBIL, August 3 – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said on Wednesday that funds received from the central government in Baghdad were insufficient to pay the region’s public sector workers’ salaries.

A statement from KRG Spokesman Peshawa Tahir Mustafa said:

“The federal government has only sent 598 billion dinars to the employees of the region, and this amount does not cover the financial dues and salaries of employees in Kurdistan. We need 912 billion dinars from the federal government to provide the salaries of the region’s employees.

The Prime Minister of Kurdistan, Masrour Barzani, ordered the Ministry of Finance to announce the salary schedule as soon as possible and to start distributing it and address the existing deficit.”
