Inmate allegedly escapes Sulaymaniyah jail by posing as visiting brother
SULAYMANIYAH — A prisoner managed to escape from the Sulaymaniyah correctional facility by reportedly swapping clothes with his visiting brother, allowing him to leave undetected during a family visitation, a security source told 964media. The brother, who was left behind, has been detained and is now under investigation.
“During family visitation yesterday, the prisoner swapped clothing with his brother, allowing him to walk out freely while his brother stayed behind,” the source explained.
Authorities discovered the identity switch after noticing inconsistencies and promptly detained the brother who remained. The prisoner’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Attempts by 964media to get a statement from prison officials and the Ministry of Social Affairs were met with no response.
This escape follows a similar incident in July, when a 15-year-old girl briefly escaped from the Sulaymaniyah correctional facility for women and children before being apprehended.
