Iraqi Interior Minister assures smooth voting process

BAGHDAD, December 16– Iraq’s Interior Minister, Abdul Amir Shamari, affirmed the absence of violations and assured the normalcy of the ongoing voting process during an interview with Iraqi television on Saturday.

Minister Shamari emphasized the comprehensive security measures in place, ensuring the protection of polling stations across the country. He outlined an organized approach to facilitate the special voting, with participants divided into three segments to streamline the process.

“The voting process is proceeding smoothly in all provinces, with no reported violations,” stated Minister Shamari.

While rumors circulated regarding a potential sound bomb attack on a polling station in Baghdad, as of now, security sources have not officially confirmed such an incident.

Special voting for the Iraqi provincial council elections commenced on Saturday, 16th December 2023, with the general elections scheduled for Monday.
