Peshmerga conduct security operation in Makhmur district

MAKHMUR, November 30– Peshmerga forces conducted a search operation early Wednesday, spanning two villages in Makhmur and covering a distance of 16 kilometers, with forces on foot and in military vehicles.

The 21st Peshmerga Infantry Brigade executed the operation starting at 6:00 a.m. and concluded at 12:30 p.m. in the villages of Kushaf and Abushita.

A source within the Peshmerga Ministry told 964, there were no sightings of ISIS fighters during the operation. The primary objective of the undertaking was to provide reassurance to area residents, safeguard the security and stability of the region, and mitigate the potential threat posed by terrorists.

The security gap between Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army, particularly in several areas of Makhmur and five Kurdish villages bordering Tuz Khurmatu, remains a concern.

Despite decisions made over two years ago to establish two joint brigades for addressing these gaps and alleviating fears of an ISIS resurgence, there is currently no new decision regarding the deployment of these forces to fortify security in the area.
