Kurdistan Region logged 751 attacks in three months, report finds
ERBIL — Community Peacemaker Teams–Iraqi Kurdistan documented 751 attacks across the Kurdistan Region between Feb. 28 and May 28, 2026, during and after the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, according to a report released by the organization.
Iranian forces carried out 298 of the attacks, while Iran-backed Iraqi militia groups were responsible for 453 incidents during the three-month monitoring period. Suicide drones accounted for 589 attacks, followed by 149 rocket and missile strikes, 12 artillery shelling incidents and one gunfire attack. The report recorded 22 people killed and 112 injured. Those killed included 10 people affiliated with Iranian Kurdish opposition groups and 12 civilians, members of Iraqi Kurdish security forces and other non-belligerents.
Erbil governorate recorded 588 attacks, more than three-quarters of all incidents documented during the period. Sulaymaniyah recorded 135 attacks, while Duhok and Halabja recorded 22 and six respectively.
US diplomatic and military facilities were the most frequently targeted locations, accounting for 281 attacks. Civilian and non-belligerent infrastructure, including Kurdistan Region security facilities, residential areas, oil installations and telecommunications facilities, was targeted in 238 attacks. Iranian Kurdish opposition groups and their camps were targeted in 232 attacks.
CPT-IK said 647 attacks occurred during the first 40 days of the conflict, before a ceasefire was announced on April 8, with US diplomatic and military facilities accounting for 42.8% of all attacks in that period. An additional 104 attacks were documented after the ceasefire took effect, primarily directed at Iranian Kurdish opposition groups and their camps. Iranian forces carried out 92 of those 104 post-ceasefire attacks, with opposition groups and their camps targeted in 86 incidents. Five people were killed and 17 injured during the ceasefire period, all members of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.
In its recommendations, CPT-IK called on parties to implement a binding agreement to prevent further attacks in the Kurdistan Region, urged the Iraqi government to uphold Iraq’s sovereignty and called on both the federal and Kurdistan regional governments to compensate civilians affected by the conflict.
