Iraqi lawyer sentenced to seven years for possessing forged government seals
SALAH AL-DIN — A Salah al-Din court sentenced a lawyer to seven years in prison after authorities seized a collection of forged official seals attributed to multiple government departments, including the Salah al-Din Court of Appeal and its affiliated courts.
The ruling was issued under Article 275 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which covers forgery and the use of falsified official instruments.
The case follows similar prosecutions in recent months. In September 2025, Iraq’s Central Criminal Court sentenced a man to 10 years for possessing forged state seals linked to government offices. In May 2025, seven government employees in Salah al-Din were arrested on charges of forgery and fraud involving state-owned land and fabricated approvals.
