Iraq adds over one million new voters born in 2008-2010 to electoral roll

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission approved Sunday the addition of citizens born in 2008, 2009 and 2010 to the biometric voter registration database, with more than 1.12 million new voters born in 2008 alone set to become eligible for upcoming elections.

Commission spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai said biometric cards will be printed for the newly registered voters, with the electoral administration tasked with implementing the necessary measures.

In Iraq’s 2025 parliamentary elections, around 12 million voters cast ballots out of approximately 21.4 million registered — a turnout that will now grow with the addition of the new cohorts.
