Iraq declares Eid al-Fitr public holiday from March 18 to March 23
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Council of Ministers announced Tuesday that official working hours will be suspended for six days to mark the Eid al-Fitr holiday, starting March 18.
In a statement, the council said it had decided to suspend official work “from Wednesday, March 18, 2026, until Monday, March 23, 2026,” with government institutions set to resume operations on Tuesday, March 24.
The statement added that the holiday comes “on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Fitr,” extending wishes that it returns “to all Iraqis and the Islamic nation with goodness and stability.”
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, during which government offices, schools and many businesses close.
