Five members of one family killed as car plunges into ravine near Kirkuk
KIRKUK — Five members of the same family were killed Friday when their car overturned and plunged into a ravine on the road between Dobs and Perdi, a security source told 964media.
All passengers died at the scene. The victims were residents of Perdi subdistrict. Rescue teams and authorities are working to recover the bodies and retrieve the vehicle.
The crash is the latest in a series of deadly road incidents across Iraq. On Wednesday, 13 people were killed and five injured in a collision on the Saqlawiyah-Fallujah highway in Anbar, eight of them found charred after a fire broke out inside one of the vehicles.
Iraq recorded nearly 14,000 traffic deaths and more than 500,000 injuries between 2023 and 2025, according to Health Ministry spokesperson Saif al-Badr, who said each injury costs the state an average of $20,000.
