Volunteers in Nasiriyah serve free iftar meals to travelers for second consecutive Ramadan

NASIRIYAH — A volunteer team in Dhi Qar has returned for a second year to set up a roadside iftar station offering free meals to fasting travelers at the northern entrance to Nasiriyah, reporting an increase in both visitors and meals served.

The Majanan team distributes more than 200 meals daily to travelers unable to reach home before sunset, including day laborers, craftsmen, taxi drivers and residents of northern Dhi Qar returning after work or medical visits in the city.

“Most visitors are people who come to Nasiriyah for medical appointments, especially residents of northern areas of the governorate, as well as day laborers, workers, craftsmen and taxi drivers who return home late,” team head Mohammed Saleh told 964media.

The initiative began with self-funding from team members but has since attracted contributions from donors and local residents, said team member Jawad Kadhim. Walid al-Wannan, a resident of al-Fajr district who stopped at the station while returning from Nasiriyah with his family, praised the generosity of Nasiriyah residents.
