Erbil traffic authority sets rules for taxi roof signs after repeated violations
ERBIL — The Traffic Directorate issued new guidance for taxi drivers on Saturday, citing repeated violations involving the improper use or placement of roof signs and setting three requirements to standardize their installation.
The directorate said it had observed some drivers not using the taxi sign, known locally as the “tabq,” or placing it incorrectly.
Under the new guidelines, the sign must be installed on the roof, positioned centrally between the driver’s door and the rear passenger door. It must be fitted with a yellow light for nighttime visibility — no other colors are permitted.
Signs may not be attached to the rear window, front windshield or trunk. Placement must be limited to the roof in accordance with approved specifications.
The directorate urged drivers to comply to avoid violations and ensure uniform standards across the city’s taxi fleet.
