Halbousi, Hammoudi discuss post-election steps in Baghdad meeting

BAGHDAD — Mohammed Halbousi, head of the Taqaddum Party, met Monday with Humam Hammoudi, leader of the Absher Ya Iraq alliance, to discuss political developments, constitutional deadlines following November 11 parliamentary elections according to a statement from Halbousi’s media office.

The two leaders reviewed the current political landscape and ongoing dialogue efforts. The statement emphasized “the importance of continuing responsible dialogues among national forces to develop a shared vision for the future of the political process.”

Both parties underlined that “dialogue is the environment that guarantees a smooth transition toward the next stage with strong and effective political tools that match the level of challenges.” They also highlighted the need to “strengthen public confidence in the constitutional democratic system.”

Iraq’s Nov. 11 elections filled all 329 seats in the Council of Representatives.

President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid issued a decree on Dec. 16 calling the newly elected parliament to convene its first session on Dec. 29. Under the decree, the opening session will be chaired by the oldest member of parliament, in line with constitutional requirements.
