Severe fog warning issued for Sunday morning with ‘near-zero’ visibility

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority warned Saturday of dense fog forming during the early hours of Sunday, December 14, across most cities, with greater intensity expected in the Kurdistan Region and eastern areas.

In a statement, the authority said, “During the dawn and morning hours of Sunday, dense fog will return to most cities and increase in intensity toward northern and eastern regions due to high humidity levels and calm winds.”

The statement added, “This will lead to a significant decrease in horizontal visibility, reaching the point of near-zero on external roads.”

The authority advised highway users to “take the highest levels of caution while driving during these hours until visibility gradually improves before noon.”

Earlier in day, the meteorological authority forecasted fog and scattered rainfall across the country on Saturday, with weather patterns varying by region.
