Gas explosion injures homeowner in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH — A gas cylinder exploded in a house in the Awbara neighborhood of Sulaymaniyah on Saturday morning, injuring the homeowner and causing significant damage to the property.

The explosion occurred shortly before 7:45 a.m., according to Aram Ali, spokesperson for Sulaymaniyah’s civil defense directorate, who told 964media that emergency teams were alerted and quickly arrived at the scene.

A local resident told 964media, “The sound of the explosion was very loud. We thought a major blast had occurred. When we came here, it turned out a gas cylinder had exploded, and the homeowner was thrown outside.”

The injured man, who was home alone at the time, sustained burns to his face and was transferred to a hospital for treatment.

Civil defense authorities said the explosion was caused by a leak from a household gas cylinder.
