Post-election talks
Hakim urges unity, adherence to deadlines in talks with Fayyad-led delegation
BAGHDAD — Faleh Al-Fayyad, head of the Popular Mobilization Forces, led a delegation from the Prime Minister Al-Sudani-led Reconstruction and Development Coalition, in a visit to Ammar Al-Hakim, head of the Al-Hikma Movement.
According to a statement from Hakim’s media office, the meeting addressed recent political developments in Iraq and the region, as well as upcoming constitutional obligations following Nov. 11 parliamentary elections.
Hakim stressed “the importance of the Coordination Framework’s unity and preserving the achievements made,” adding that political entitlements must be resolved “within the specified constitutional timelines.”
He also urged prioritizing public interest over private ones and “building on the positives to move from fragile stability to sustainable stability,” in a way that meets the expectations of Iraqi citizens from all communities.
Hakim said Iraq is currently experiencing “security, political, and social stability,” pointing to voter turnout and “the citizen’s commitment to the electoral and democratic path” as indicators.
Iraqis voted for all 329 seats in the Council of Representatives last month.
Preliminary results show the Reconstruction and Development Coalition led by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani won 46 seats, the largest single share, but no party or coalition secured a majority. Forming a government will require alliances and compromises among several blocs.
