Per-lesson pay for non-permanent teachers increased to 4,000 dinars in Kurdistan Region
ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Education Minister Alan Hama Saeed said Monday that the government has approved an increase in the per lesson fees paid to per-class teachers, doubling the rate from 2,000 Iraqi dinars ($1.4) to 4,000 dinars ($2.8) per lesson.
Hama Saeed wrote in a Facebook post that Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani agreed to the raise “to support teachers.” He said the increase also applies to teachers who exceed their official teaching load — more than 24 lessons a week in basic school and over 22 in secondary school.
The minister said the higher rate will be calculated retroactively from the start of the current academic year and that instructions will be sent to the Ministry of Finance for implementation on Monday.
Per-class teachers are not permanently employed; they are paid monthly for the number of lessons they teach. Due to a shortage of permanent staff in many schools, education authorities have assigned them to fill gaps across classrooms throughout the Kurdistan Region.
In his statement, Hama Saeed expressed “thanks to the prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government… for supporting teachers” through the increase.
