Diyala Police say Al-Khalis official’s shooting linked to family dispute, not assassination attempt
BAQUBA — Diyala Police Command on Monday denied reports that Al-Khalis Municipality Director Nasr Jihad Hussein had survived an assassination attempt, saying the late-night shooting was the result of a personal dispute.
Police said Hussein’s vehicle came under fire Sunday on the Abu Tamer road, outside Al-Khalis, north of Baquba. The attack caused no injuries.
In a statement, the command said “the matter was a dispute with his in-laws, and a formal complaint has been filed against them in accordance with legal procedures.”
Security forces are reviewing surveillance footage from the area “to uncover the facts and take legal action against those involved,” the statement added.
Diyala Police urged residents and social media users not to circulate unverified information, warning that false reports “could disturb the stable security situation in the governorate.”
