Seventh in Asia
Iraq climbs one spot to 57th in FIFA World Rankings
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s national soccer team rose one spot to 57th in the FIFA World Rankings for October, earning 1,428.69 points, the Iraq Football Association announced Friday.
“Our national team has advanced to 57th place in the FIFA rankings for October,” the IFA said in a statement.
The ranking keeps Iraq in seventh place among Asian teams, trailing Japan, Iran, South Korea, Australia, Qatar, and Uzbekistan, and ahead of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.
Globally, Spain now tops the FIFA rankings, followed by Argentina, France, and England.
Iraq’s recent results in the Asian playoff round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers included a 1-0 win over Indonesia and a goalless draw with Saudi Arabia. The draw ended Iraq’s chances of direct qualification.
The team will face the UAE in a two-legged playoff on Nov. 13 in Abu Dhabi and Nov. 18 in Basra to determine eligibility for the intercontinental playoff stage.
