Suspect arrested after allegedly hijacking mixer truck and overturning in Sulaymaniyah tunnel
SULAYMANIYAH — A man was arrested Thursday after allegedly hijacking a concrete mixer truck and overturning it near the Peshraw tunnel in Sulaymaniyah, according to company officials and police.
Delir Abdulla, manager of the Hemin Concrete Company, told 964media that the incident occurred around noon after police informed them that one of their mixer trucks had been involved in a crash. “We were told that the person involved was a suspect wanted by police. He assaulted our driver, forcibly took the mixer, and fled before overturning it near the tunnel,” Abdulla said.
He added that the company has filed legal complaints against the suspect and that the driver, who was psychologically affected by the assault, has also filed a lawsuit against him.
Police said the suspect was injured in the crash. The road was temporarily closed as emergency teams responded, but traffic resumed shortly after the vehicle was removed and the area was cleared.
