President Barzani, ex-PM Abadi discuss political stability and upcoming elections
ERBIL — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met Wednesday with Haider al-Abadi, former Iraqi prime minister and head of the Al-Nasr Coalition, to discuss Iraq’s political situation and relations between Erbil and Baghdad, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency’s media office.
The meeting focused on ongoing efforts to resolve outstanding issues between the federal and regional governments and the preparations for Iraq’s parliamentary elections scheduled for Nov. 11. Both sides “emphasized the importance of maintaining the country’s political stability and security,” the statement said.
Abadi’s Al-Nasr Coalition has already announced it will not take part in the upcoming election.
Earlier this week, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also met with Abadi to discuss political developments and coordination between Erbil and Baghdad.

Both parties emphasized the importance of maintaining the country’s political stability and security, and resolving issues between Erbil and Baghdad through dialogue and mutual understanding. They also exchanged views on the future of the political process in Iraq, the parliamentary elections, and the participation of various political forces and components in the country.
