Dhi Qar launches campaign to plant 30,000 trees in Nasiriyah

DHI QAR — Dhi Qar authorities began a large-scale tree planting campaign Wednesday in Nasiriyah, aiming to plant 30,000 trees.

The initiative is part of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani’s nationwide campaign to plant 5 million seedlings.

In a statement, the Dhi Qar media office said Governor Murtada Al-Ibrahimi launched the campaign, which “comes after completing follow-up stages for urban and service projects in the governorate, with work proceeding at a rapid pace to increase green spaces and improve the urban landscape.”

Officials called on institutions to contribute by planting in front of their buildings. “It is necessary for Nasiriyah municipality to distribute seedlings free of charge and plant them in front of buildings as part of its responsibility to support the governorate’s environmental and developmental effort,” the statement said.

The campaign will continue in coordination with the Directorate of Agriculture to plant trees in public gardens, squares, and road medians, with the goal of “enhancing the environmental reality and providing a healthy and attractive environment for the people of the governorate.”

In the end of September, Iraq’s Ministry of Agriculture said that more than 8 million trees have been planted under the national tree-planting initiative, with the program structured around five strategic goals. The ministry emphasized the importance of adopting modern irrigation methods to ensure the effort’s sustainability.
