Kirkuk court sentences man to death for 2014 assassination plot
KIRKUK — The Kirkuk Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for his role in the 2014 assassination of the deputy head of the Kirkuk Appeals Court and several security personnel.
The judiciary’s media office said the convicted man was a member of a “terrorist group” that carried out killings and abductions in Shumayt village, in Zab subdistrict, “aimed to instill fear and horror among people for terrorist purposes.”
The sentence was issued under Article 4/1, in reference to Articles 2/1 and 2/3 of Iraq’s Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005.
