Erbil resident distributes aid to poor families, earns trust of donors

ERBIL — For nearly 15 years, 52-year-old Qasim Yousif, known locally as “Mam Qasim,” has been a trusted figure in the Bahrka district of Erbil, where wealthier residents regularly provide him with funds to purchase essentials for poor and orphaned families.

“I do this work only for God, because if He is pleased with me, I want nothing else,” he told 964media.

Mam Qasim’s charitable work spans all seasons. In summer, he distributes cooling equipment; in winter, he provides fuel; and during holidays, he supplies meat and festive goods, especially for children. His efforts have earned him the trust of many in the community, including donors who contribute through him. “Trust comes from honesty and actions, and people trust me a lot,” he said, citing a woman who recently donated her gold jewelry to support orphaned children.

Aram Mustafa, owner of a local clothing shop where Mam Qasim regularly purchases items for needy families, praised his dedication. “I testify that Mam Qasim is an honest and trustworthy man,” Mustafa said. “For years he has been providing families in need with what they require.”
