Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq leader denounces Israeli strike in Doha, calls for UN action

BAGHDAD — Qais al-Khazali, leader of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, on Tuesday condemned Israel’s strike in Doha that targeted a Hamas delegation, calling it “an atrocious assault and a serious violation.”

In a statement posted on his X account, al-Khazali said the strike was “a blatant breach of all international laws and norms, clearly expressing the aggression of the entity against a brotherly Arab state hosting negotiation efforts to stop the Zionist massacres in resilient Gaza.”

He urged “the United Nations, the Security Council, and all relevant bodies responsible for maintaining security and peace in the world, to take urgent measures to put an end to the crimes of this illegitimate entity.”

Al-Khazali also reaffirmed his group’s stance. “We emphasize our firm position in supporting the Palestinian people’s resistance and their just cause to rid themselves of the occupation,” he said.

On Sept. 9, Israel conducted an airstrike on Qatari soil, targeting senior Hamas leaders who were meeting in Doha. Casualties included Khalil al-Hayya’s son Humam, his office director Jihad Abu Labad, three bodyguards, and a Qatari security officer. Hamas leadership reportedly survived.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani also spoke by phone with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Tuesday, condemning the strike as “the heinous Zionist aggression that targeted the brotherly State of Qatar,” according to a statement from his media office.
